“The weekend was wondrous! I loved everything about the retreat. All the yoga sessions were excellent & open to all abilities but I especially enjoyed the restorative yoga and iRest guided meditation. I feel so peaceful, tranquil & rested”  Alison

Your long weekend retreat

Join us in June 2022 for our yoga retreat in the heart of the Lake District. We will be staying at Nab Cottage which is in a stunning location, directly across from Rydal Water and a short stroll from the idyllic village of Grasmere that Wordsworth described as "the loveliest spot that man hath ever found" and Ambleside.

Practice mindful yoga, conscious breathing & meditation and deep relaxation including iRest yoga nidra in the converted barn, with it's large French window opening onto the garden and looking up the fell side. When we are able, we will practise outside in the sun or under the cool shade of the plentiful trees. There is a small meditation room also available for your personal use at any time

Enjoy home cooked, delicious, wholesome & nutritious food, freshly prepared for us.

Go on breath taking walks, enjoying the fresh lakeland air, including an optional group walk on Saturday.

Take home simple, yet powerful tools to reduce stress, support your wellbeing and peace in your everyday life.

There will be plenty of free time too, where you can relax in the cottage or the gardens,

swim in the beautiful lake opposite or borrow a canoe.

You may wish to sit and read in the window seats that overlook the lake, relax in the hammock, take time to enjoy the enchanting views, play the piano, sit and chat with new friends or walk 500m along the lake to the local pub.

This retreat is suitable for everyone, whether you are new to these practises or experienced, and it gives you the opportunity to learn new skills and / or deepen your practise and knowledge, whilst meeting like minded people.

This will be a small retreat, and you are welcome to arrive from 4pm on Friday and we finish / check out is 11am on Monday.

All of the practices / sessions will be taught by Simon Hoten.

Nab Cottage

Your home for the long weekend, will be the very special Nab Cottage standing alone beside a small lake and surrounded by mountains. It is quoted as being, ‘One of the most mysterious and beautiful of all the Lake District’s traditional cottages, once lived in by the opium-eater Thomas De Quincey’ and frequently visited by Wordsworth.

The 16th century cottage is full of character and charm and some of the cottage's original features, such as beams, spice cupboards, creaking floors, mullioned windows, Thomas De Quincey's writing desk, flagged kitchen, and farm outbuildings, are still present.

The cottage's atmosphere is easy going and the warm and cosy rooms are all individually furnished and some with lake views, and others with views up to Nab Scar.

There’s an orchard, outdoor sauna ( which can be booked separately) and hot tub, summerhouse with hammocks, and a vegetable and flower garden. There are also magical, secluded sitting areas hidden away in the garden.

The owners Tim & Liz aim to be as environmentally aware as possible and are committed to living sustainably with a number of initiatives in place.

WiFi is freely available throughout the cottage, barn and gardens.

The local area

The cottage is in the village of Rydal, and the location offers stunning scenery in all directions. Dove Cottage and Rydal Mount, the famous houses of William Wordsworth are nearby. It is a 500m walk along the lake to the local pub, a 3km walk along the river into the local village of Ambleside, 3km around the lake into Grasmere and lake Windermere is also 3km away.
